I need an IR extender to use with my Tivo and a DVD player. THe components are in a hole in my wall that's blocked by a plasma TV that is mounted in front of the hole. Can anyone recommend a reliable IR extender.

A lot of people like the Hot Link Pro, less than $100 online. But, it didn't work for my setup so, I went with the Logitech Harmony 890. I'm glad I did. This is a great remote.

+1 for the Hot Link. IIRC, plasma displays emit IR. You'll need to mount the Hot Link receiving "eye" in a place where it can't "see" the TV, i.e. somewhat behind it.

Or buy a plasma friendly receiver.
I have bought a couple of Xantech IR products from www.worthdist.com. You want one of the KITs as it has all the stuff you need. You might need to buy the parts seperately to get the plasma friendly recevier though. You can check www.xantech.com and look at products for more info on them. THey also have an application chart here: http://www.xantech.com/products/a_folder/a_aa14-IR%20REcv-App_Chart.pdf . Find the models you need and jump on Froogle.

My TV is placed covering an open cubby in the wall where my components are. If I placed the eye on the side of the TV or even right behind the TV so that the signal can bounce off the wall (the TV is wider than the cubby), would that work? I'd like to avoid paying over $100 for this.

By the way do the cheap Terk Leapfrog product work well?

I have been using the Radio Shack IR extender for years with both a ReplayTV and HR10-250 and they work great.

I might give the radio shack/terk leapfrog a try while I'm waiting on Amazon to ship the Hotlink. If it works I can return the Hotlink to Amazon or just cancel the order if it hasn't shipped yet.

They work great for me...sames goes for the Radio Shack units. I can reliably control a DTiVo in my basement from the 2nd floor with either of these. I have one of each brand in my daughters' rooms and they both work flawlessly.

Same here. Have been using them for years w/o a problem. Even within the general vicinity of plasmas (though location can be a bit more important there).

The radio shack one looks good. I might try it myself. How does placing work on these? Do I just set one up where it gets all my remotes button presses and then the other goes where? I'm wanting mine to be able to send signals to all my devices but there are a few shelves away from each other. I'd say they are at least 2 or 3 feet away from each other.
