Not sure where to post such a question, so I apologize if it is slightly off-topic and if I need to post elsewhere, please let me know a good place. I have a Sony CRT that is HD-ready and use a HR10-250 to view HD programming. I am getting my kids an Xbox 360 for Christmas. I am assuming I can't simply plug it in to the TV to get HD gaming, or can I? Can the HR10-250 figure into the equation somewhere to get HD gaming, or not? What are my options?

Sorry... I am very ignorant of the whole gaming thing....

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

I'm no expert, but I believe you are over complicating this.

The xbox 360 has two versions, pro and core. The pro version comes with among other things, a component cable connection. Connect the component out of the xbox 360 to an extra component in on your HDTV.

I believe only some games support the hd resolutions while others do not.

All 360 games are 720p or 1080i.

Thanks for the info. I hope I am making it too complicated. My concern is that because the TV is only HD "ready" -- and for example requires the HR10-250 to actually get HD -- the Xbox 360 will not perform the same function -- passing through the HD signal -- as the Tivo does. But maybe it does. I guess that is my question.

HD ready means it doesn't have an HD OTA tuner. ATSC or whatever.

Means you need an external HD source. An Xbox 360 is just such a source.

Perfect, just what I wanted to hear. Thanks.

One easy step to skip and hard to notice is a small switch on the cord that plugs into the back of the xbox. It needs to be switched to HDTV.

This wasn't said, maybe implied, but having an HD ready T.V. doesn't matter. The Xbox 360, as did the Xbox, has the HD decoder built in.

you're kids will love you for this..............the graphics are simply amazing in HD. Who knows, you might just get hooked like a lot of us. I was up to 1:30 am last night playing on-line with a buddy.......very addicting.

Another thing to consider (as it isn't mentioned which model Sony HDTV you have), is how many HD inputs does the TV have?

Or do you have an AV reciever with multiple Component / DVI / HDMI switching ?

If the TV only has the one input, you will have to swap out the HD10-250 for the 360 every time that you go to play, and back to the D* box when you want to watch TV again.

Sherminator is right on as far as inputs go. I use my Yamaha HTR-5490 receiver to switch the 360 and the HR10-250 since I only have one component input on my set, which is a few years old. Most newer ones have multiple inpts though.

There is also an ongoing xbox 360 thread over in Happy hour. Lots of help can be had there as well.

On xbox Live, you can download HD movie trailers and also TV shows and movies now. You can also use it to stream music video and pictures from your home PC.

The thread gets so big it has to be restarted every 1,000 posts which is usually every 2 weeks. The curent one is here: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=332410

Thanks for the info. The Xbox will be connected to a KV-36XBR450, which has two sets up component inputs (but no HDMI or DVI... I think I missed those by year).
