Here's my situation:

I have 2 Series2 TiVos. One with lifetime and one montly. I have basic (analog) cable and a standard def 32" CRT Toshiba television. Eventually I plan on getting a 65" Panny 1080p plasma which will fit perfectly over my fireplace. Also at that point I'll switch to digital HD cable (from Comcast).

Given the falling prices of S3 TiVos, and the limited time I have left to transfer my lifetime subscription, the question is: Do I buy now? Now, $500+ for a Tivo is a lot for me, especially when I won't be using most of the features now (except for the dual tuners). I don't anticipate replacing my TV for at least 8 to 12 months or more. What are the benefits of buying now? And how about waiting until I have my new TV and HD signal?

It seems a shame to spend all this money now. Point me in the right direction.

I would say if you have one Tivo on monthly, then I would wait to get an S3 until you have HD and then get rid of the S2 with a monthly and replace it with an S3 with monthly. No lost money there. Only reason to buy now would be to transfer the lifetime.

Just my opinion though.

The lifetime is really what I'm struggling with right now. The lifetime has already paid for itself so there's no reason to think it won't again on the S3. I have a big discussion to have with the wife tonight.
