Tivo S3 noise

My S3 makes a low frequency humming sound and wondered if anyone else had sounds coming from their box. I was told it may be just the fan in the power supply and not a concern.

How much noise does your S3 make?

I don't hear any noises. Of course I live in a house with 10 sometimes screaming birds that get great pleasure out of mimicing noices like TiVo's Be Boop and such so who can tell. :)

I've upgraded my S3 with a WeaKnees 750GB DB35, and it's as whisper quiet now as it was before the upgrade.

If you listen for it you can hear it like all TiVos I've used.

Huh? Huh? Whadja say? Holler into the horn please. Old ears make for a more pleasant world. Loud rock music on Altec Lansing Voice of the Theaters helped a lot too. Not to mention the shooting.

Mine's in a cabinet with closed doors ... I can't hear it unless I open the doors and stick my head in there.

I just got a S3 and installed a 750GB Seagate DB35 drive from Weaknees and I can only hear it when my head is right next to it. I can't hear it when I am sitting on my couch 9 and 1/2 feet away and I certainly can't hear it when I have sound coming out of my sound system. It is very quiet.

My Series 2 that has 2 hard drives (also a Weaknees upgrade) is much louder than my S3 and I think it might be one of the fans (either the case fan or the WeaKnees TwinBreeze™Cooling Pak that came with the upgrade).

I can't hear mine in the day when the A/C is running and there is more ambient noise. But at night with the A/C off and things generally quieter, the humming noise is obnoxious. I hope a DB35 drive upgrade will quiet it. Otherwise, I'll be selling it on eBay (it has lifetime service so it shouldn't be too difficult to sell).

Every once in a while my Tivo will make a moderately loud buzzing noise. (Kinda like you were describing.) Definitely different than a cooling fan or hard drive spinning. When I press on the face plate the noise stops. It only happens occasionally; maybe once or twice a month.
