View Full Version : plaid picture revisited

I posted once before about a plaid picture I was getting with my HR10-250 HD Tivo. It looked almost like a Madras plaid, with vertical and horizontal band of color making the picture impossible to see. After about an hour, the regular picture came back. A Directv tech came out and said the 10-250 might be going bad and they would replace it if the problem happened again (I have a free replacement policy). For about a month everything was OK and then it happened last night. After an hour, the problem remained. Then I tried changing the picture resolution (780i, 1080i, etc.) and the picture immediately came back. Can anyone explain what may be causing this? I would rather not replace the 10-250 because I have lots of things saved and because Directv says it probably would be replace with a non Tivo model. If it's going bad, I may have no choice but is that the problem? Thanks!

Is your DVR connected to your TV using the HDMI connection? This could be a symptom of a dying HDMI interface on the DVR. Or problems with your TV's HDMI synchronization. Changing the output resolution forces a synchnronization process between the TV and DVR, temporarily fixing the problem.
What happens if you use component video cables instead of HDMI?

Also, overheating can cause problems like this. Check your Tivo's internal temperature ....
"Messages & Setup" -> "System Information". If the temperature is over 50-deg C try to cool things down.

I've seen it on component, and HDMI back when I had the HR10-250 hooked up via HDMI.
Just last week sometime was the latest.
Changing resolution on the TiVo always fixes it.
Only seen it twice in the 9 months I've had the HR10.
I've also seen it on my S3, which is now using the HDMI.
Only once in the 2 months I've had it.
Both times it was there when I turned the TV on, TiVo's not even warm.
If I remember correctly, all 3 times it have been soon after a software upgrade?

If you have seen it on BOTH the S3 and the HR-10, I would start suspecting your TV.

Nope, not even going to go there.
Based on the HD CRT forums over at avsforums,
I have the one Samsung Slim Fit in existence that was good right out of the box.
