View Full Version : Actually got a HR10 Refurb in mail, expecting the HR20

I had to send my leased HR10 back, as the modem had failed, and I was unable to activate the new updates. I let the woman talk me into getting an HR20. I've been a TiVo guy from way back, but didn't like the idea of not having content available to me next year (and knew that if I tried to change then, there'd be a charge).

So, I said yes, and started to read about where the state of that unit is. I knew what I was giving up (the PQ of OTA, which, I don't have the best eyes in the world, and I can't tell a difference b/w my OTAs and my HD Package) but I also knew what I would be gaining (not right away, but when DTV rolled out the new channels next year) plus, my OTA signal quality has been a real issue recently, so I wouldn't have reliability issues.

Either way, when I got the box today, it was a HR10. I didn't think they had any more of these, including refurbs. This, obviously wasn't the case.

(Plus, it turns out after all of that, it wasn't that my modem was done, it was that my local phone system had changed, and I now had to dial a 1 to get to the numbers that I never had to in the past). Thanks for that 1hour 45min conversation to figure that out (Guess it was a bit of troubleshooting that I could have done on my own).

I guess my biggest frustration was that I never really got much more than a fake "I'm sorry" about my 6.3/6.3a issues, and I was told one thing, and received something else.

Many, I would assume, especially in this forum, would say I lucked out, but if you make a promise, keep it!

I had a hard drive go bad and told them I wanted an HDTivo, not a new HD-DVR. Wouldn't you know it, they sent me an SD Tivo. I called them back and told them to send me a correct HDTivo and got an HDTivo in the mail 2 days later.

I had the same thing happen to me this week. They said you are getting the new HR20-700. They then sent out an installer to put the new 5LMB dish on the roof. All was going good then the box came Fedex and was a HR10-250. I called to see what was up and they told me I had to get on the waiting list for the HR20-700 and that it would cost me $99. So for now I'm still on the HR10-250.

Do you have 6.3 or 3.1 software on your replacement HR10 ?

I had this EXACT experience. I have a 5LNB dish but no HR20s. I mailed back the two refurb HR10s they sent to me. What a crock. I'm now on the waiting list as well with no idea what sort of "deal" I'm going to get at that time. :(

I had, after the 6th person I spoke with Tuesday, someone PROMISE me that it was IN THE NOTES that I was to receive a new HR20 upgrade for free.

We'll see.

Either way, the question was what software I have preinstalled? 6.3a. No update as of yet, either.

My hr10-250 went bad after the last update and they just sent me another 250 as a replacement. It came with 6.3 installed (not a nor b, just 6.3, and now is downloading something long over the phone... I am assuming is 6.3a and then it should get 6.3b over the data connection)

 Grrr!

I find this thread both ironic and frustrating. DTV made two attempts to send me a promised HR10, and both times I got a HR20. Sort of a Charlie Brown lump of coal in my stocking. I had to find a HR10 on my own, but at least they paid for it.

Left hand, say hello to Right hand. You two should talk more.
