My HDMI output died this morning on my 10-250 and the CSR at DirecTV told me that since my component still worked, there was nothing she could do. Did I just get an inexperienced CSR or is this their new policy?

Any info would help. Thanks.

DirecTV is probably just about out of replacement HR10-250 DVRs. Is yours still covered by the one year parts/labor warranty? Do you have DirecTV's Equipment Protection Plan? If yes then they should replace it, but you might get an HR20 non-Tivo HD DVR instead of a replacement HR10-250. There are places that can sell you replacement HDMI cards for your HR10-250 (http://www.weaknees.com and others).

Yes and no. I bought the 10-250 in August of 2005 so the year warranty is out but I do have the equipment protection plan.

Sounds like you think my best bet is to replace the HDMI myself, right?

Question: Why do you need (or care) if you have an HDMI output if you have a component that works? It is highly unlikely that you will see any difference in the picture quality--or for that matter, the quality of Dolby Digital sound (for which you will need a separate cable.

I have a ceiling mounted Digital projector, a Sanyo PLV-Z5. Shortly after I connected it to my system, the HDMI connection on my HR10-250 crapped out. I was more or less expecting this to happen some day. Since I already had component cables pulled into the junction box I have next to my projector, I just switched cable. Absolutely no discernable difference in PQ on my 102" diagonal Carada Brilliant White screen. I see no point in spending any money on an HDMI card. Rather go out to a nice restaurant with my wife and having a great meal and bottle of wine with the money I don't spend on an HDMI card! :)

Because my TV has limited inputs and I already use the component inputs for others devices.
