sorry....

I meant the total number of HR10s that were ever made.(either still in service or deactivated) There are millions of DirecTV customers out there... is this a large percentage?

I don't think anyone here would have that number or even a reasonable guess. You can determine with SOME reasonable accuracy the number of DirecTV TiVos of any kind, but I have never seen anything that separates out the HR10.

Let's say on an average 2 DirecTivo per subscriber.
8.8 Million DirecTivo Subscribers.

DirecTV has stated, 10% of their client base is already in HD mode.

So a "really" highlevel guessing point...

Two DirecTV/Tivo's per subscriber might be a bit high. I would have guessed that about 400,000 - 500,000 HR10-250's were sold, and even that might be a bit high.

I dunno. There are lots of crazy folks out there that would skew the numbers to 2 per house. I have 4. 2 are not currently active but were in the mix at some point.

DirecTV said that they had 850,000 MPEG2 HD boxes in the field as of the end of last quarter. That would include both regular and DVR receivers. My WAG would be that at least half of those are HD Tivos.

I'd agree around 400K to 500K max. I believe they only have 1-1.5 million HD subs in total.

Make it 2.8 million (per TiVo Q3 report). Say 10% are HD, adjust for multiple units and you land on about a same number as nrc came up with - 400K+.

Sounds like there are a lot of folks with more than one HR10. I've got four myself, all being used on a regular basis. I wonder if there are as many folks with more than one HR10 as there are with just one. If I can figure how how to do it, I may create a poll question.

In the HOW MANY HR10's IN YOUR HOME (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=332411) poll, the first 121 respondents accounted for at least 219 units, or about 1.8 units per subscriber. Using Earl's high level numbers, 4.4 million TIVO subscribers x 10% hi def would = 440,000 folks with 1.8 HR 10's each, or about 790,000 HR-10's in all. Pretty good guess, Earl!
