At this time, nothing. Probably will never do anything.

If I had to guess as to why it is there I would say it was put there with the intentions of giving the HR10, and the other models with it, the ability to control other IR devices.

Actually, that isn't in input, but an output. It goes back to the days when TiVos (Sony's) could be used to start a VCR recording. It's just a leftover.
