I am having good success with using Videora or WinAVI to convert Divx to watch on the Tivo. However, some movies that are in the very wide aspect ratio look "squished". Usually, I just use trial and error between Videora and WinAVI and I'll usually get a perfect transfer, but there are a couple of movies that just don't look right. I try 720x480 and 480x480. I have a widescreen TV. Any ideas?

I have a Videora profile setup for 2.4 content, so this should work:
Custom ffmpeg line: -s 720x288 -padtop 96 -padbottom 96
(I use widescreen too)

I have an old S2 40-hour that plays back mpegs and avi's I've fed through Videora just fine in the letterbox format...(I only have 4:3 tv's)
But the exact same file on the DT I just got stretches the video to remove the black bars.
I've tried the aspect ratio setting in both positions. In 16:9 I get the whole picture but it's stretched to the top and bottom of the screen giving me the squish. In 4:3 mode I don't have squish but the right third of the picture is trimmed off!
Now, I have to admit I have a new Sylvania tv in the mix and I need to check and verify with another tube that this isn't some bizarre "feature" in the tv...but does this sound at all familiar?
