I currently have my H10-250 connected to a Sony HD CRT, no HD tuner in it, and am using a Sony A/V receiver with no HDMI. I am about to move up to a new plasma HD TV with HDMI. I am reading about A/V receivers with HDMI. Do I need one of these, or is there a benefit? It would seem I would just continue to connect H10-250 to TV, but this time via HDMI, and continue to run the audio through the receiver. Is that right, or am I missing something? Thanks for any advice.

Just run it the way you have it now.

Only time those fancy HDMI receivers would be usefull is when you have more HDMI devices and only one HDMI input on the TV.

Great article. I just picked up a Sony KDS-60A2000 and had to replace my Onkyo receiver due to breaking one of the optical inputs. I went with the Onkyo TX-SR604 receiver that has the HDMI inputs but I don't use them. I run the HDMI off the HR10-250 straight to the tv.

It also depends how well the HDCP works on your HDTV.

I have a Samsung HLR-4667W HDTV. I have tried an HDMI connection to it from both my Scientific Atlantic Explorer 8300 cable box and the HR10-250. In each case it worked through HDMI for about a week and then lost either the picture or the sound.

However, I have had the S3 connected via HDMI for over a month with no problems.

I suspect that the S3 uses a newer version of HDMI and is more stable.

If you have a relatively new HDTV, you shold probable work fine with HDMI.

I have the same receiver and its just a great receiver for the price. I have 3 component video devices inputting into the receiver (HR10250, xbox 360 and dvd player) then one output to the tv. I havent got the HDMI setup yet though as my tv is a few years old and has no inputs.

The video switching works like a charm and the sound is incredible.

I can't say enough good things about the JVC D401 and D702 "digital" receivers. Worth a look if you're shopping, and fully compatible (HDMI v1.1) with the HR10-250.
