Ok folks here is my problem.

I have only bought 1 license key for the Tivo Desktop program. I installed it on my laptop and it connects to the Tivo box (via Linksys Router) and runs smoothly.

Well I got one of my christmas presents a little early and it's a new desktop. I now want to use this desktop as my "Tivo Machine" and free up my laptop from the slow transfer (tivo to computer). I un-installed the software on my laptop, and installed the software on my new desktop. For some reason, the new desktop doesn't even detect the Tivo box is in the same network "workgroup".

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix my problem?

Did you correctly enter your MAK in TiVo Desktop? Is your desktop in the same subnet as the laptop?

FYI ... you can install TiVo Desktop on both machines if you want. Not sure about the details in the license agreement with the Plus key, but you can at least use the non-Plus version on both machines.

Yes Sir, MAK was entered correctly. My new Desktop is in the same "Workgroup" if that is what you mean by Subnet.

As far as wanting the Tivo Desktop I just want it running on my new machine and no longer the laptop. I'm wondering if since I'm running the Plus version if their is something in their somewhere that won't let me run it on this new desktop, since I already initiated the license number on the Laptop

If it helps in diagnosis, while I have version 2.3a up and running I do the following:

Click on Server
Click on Tivo Server Properties
Click on the Access Control Tab
I verify that I have the Radio Button selected that says "Any connected to my home/network"
In the box below it just has the animated flashlight going back and forth saying "Please wait, searching for DVR's"

There is not a DVR that is being detected at all.

I has the exact same problem.

I made sure the Tivo Beacon service was stopped in the laptop.
I went to the DVR and tried to make a test connection to the network. It did not work so I reset all the network settings again...just ran though the network setup. It had the old values so no need to enter new info.

Once I was able to have a successful connection to the network, the DVR appeared in the Tivo Server properties and life was good again.

I hope this helps you.

For anyone having problems with TiVo Desktop, they might want to give TiVoPlaylist (http://bellsouthpwp.net/d/c/dcahoe/tivo/index.htm) a try.

TiVo Desktop still needs to be installed for the directshow filter to be able to decode the MAK encryption, but TiVoPlaylist (http://bellsouthpwp.net/d/c/dcahoe/tivo/index.htm) will let you download files easily, export your Now Playing List, view graphical usage of your TiVo hard-drive (i.e. free space indicator), plus much more.

It only works for copying shows from your TiVo to your PC though.

How do I check this?

What version of Windows OS are you using? If it's Media Center 2005, networking is automatically disabled. The attached patch will re-enable networking on your new PC.

Be sure to take all appropriate precautions (i.e., backup your registry) before you make the patch.
