TiVo not passing on sound from STB

Hi,

I've just bought a Cache card and 400 Samsung GB drive from TiVoHeaven (great service, I have to say).

I also adding a freeview set top box (Wharfedale) to the TiVo setup for the first time (was always just analog aerial before).

All installed, and whole TV/DVD/STB/TiVo setup taken to bits and reassembled according to the TiVo instructions. So many cables! I ran all the TiVo setup as it instructed me, and all *seemed* to be well. Except, I discover at the end that I am getting picture on the programmes, but no sound!

I've tried to track down the problem. I can hear the TiVo's own interface sounds through the TV fine, so it's not the TiVo to TV audio connection. If I plug the scart from the STB direct into the TV I get sound. But it seems the TiVo isn't passing on sound from the STB.

Does anyone have any ideas? I can't find much to play with in the audio menus on the STB (Wharfedale) or the TiVo.

Reboot/restart the Tivo from the menus. It is a problem that does occur sometimes after the Tivo has had a hard reboot (power off). The soft reboot (reset through onscreen menu) should fix the problem

Agreed. A soft restart should do the trick and allow the sound encoder to initialise correctly.

Yep - I got a mail back from Steve at TiVo Heaven suggesting the restart, and all is now working. So - my big scary upgrade has gone perfectly. FAB. Very satisfying. From 40 to 400 GB, and from 5 analog channels to - god knows how many digital ones.

It's a Wharfedale DV832BN. Bought from Argos for the princely sum of £29.95. It's OK looking (especially if you are a fan of big 1980's style LEDs!), and seems to work well enough, and plays nicely with the TiVo. Only issue that has come to mind is the slight delay in changing channels, but for all I know that's the same with all STBs?

It's a Wharfedale DV832BN.

Note if you are getting one from Argos that its the improved Wharfedale 832BN model that you want and not the earlier 832B which was not as good in various respects.

If you order one online there is no way to stop Argos sending you the 832B instead so I would suggest buying in store and checking the box at the counter before buying and making sure there is at least a sticker on it from the manufacturer saying 832BN rather than 832B>

Look carefully at all the forum membership details for blindlemon and you may spot a connection. ;)
