Hi -

I have a friend about to upgrade to the HD world. He is in a condo, and currently has a single Series 1 DirecTivo. His setup appears to have a DirecTV set of dishes on the condo roof run to a large multiswitch in a closet, that serves a number of the condos. There is likely a stacker in the closet, as he has a destacker in his apartment (only 1 line coming in) so the destacker then has 2 lines going to his directivo.

He wants to keep the directivo, and add a DirecTV HD receiver as well. The installers are telling him that this is simply not possible, and all he can do is hook up the HD receiver alone and dump the directivo, due to the HD signal not being able to be stacked.

I've done a search on the HD FAQ, as well as trying to learn more about what is different for stackers/destackers/multiswitches in the HD DirecTV world, but I still don't have enough information to even advise him on "yup, that's possible" or "nope, you're screwed". Can anyone shed any light, or even just provide some links where I can read a bit more? Thx in advance...

Unfortunately, what the installer said is true. However, we need more technical specs on how the condo is wired. Are the dishes on the roof aimed at all DirecTV sats? Or are there several dishes all aimed at 101? Where is the stacker installed? What multiswitch is used? Any high frequency splitters being used?

There are several HD channels on the 101 sat. But these are CBSe/w and NBCe along with a few NFL ST channels.
