Try unplugging it and rebooting by plugging back in? ;)
Or are you saying that if you do this your Tivo no longer boots up to the usual Tivo menu screen and just shows a blank or fuzzy screen or a Green Screen?

Could this be caused by another remote? I know there is a problem caused by stray IR, but can't remember what it is.
Have a look under the cushions just in case :)

You probably have another remote control for another item in the room under the bottom of a sofa cushion or wherever and/or with a button stuck down that is transmitting an IR signal on a similar frequency to the Tivo. This will block the Tivo remote signal getting through.
Check under cushions and bottoms of chairs etc for remotes and remove all other remotes from the room your Tivo is in.
The Tivo remote should now work.

It might also be a rogue IR extender blasting IR into the room due to some stray RF interference. Or perhaps someone has erected a christmas tree in front of Tivo (as in my house :D )

Ok, first check to see if the TiVo's remote is actually emitting anything. Most digital cameras are sensetive to IR - it often appears as a blueish light on their display, so try pointing the remote at one of those. If nothing is seen, there's a good chance the remote is shot, if you've exhauseted other things like changing the batteries.
TiVo remotes are pretty cheap - I bought two and a power supply for around £10 on ebay a while ago - I'm sure there are still ones going - or if not, I'm sure someone may have a spare.
But it's probably a giid idea also to check to see if there's another cause first, such as a rogue infra red source somewhere in the room.

I'd also like to add the IR port on a laptop as an option for interference!

Place the batteries in the remote upside down for a few seconds...
You can Change the ID of the remote and the ID of a tivo (So you can use two tivo remotes with two tivo's in the room and not have them interfering.
I forget how to do this, but I am sure some nice person will pop round and tell you shortly, or take a look on the US tivo site in the help/support pages.
