I looked around and didn't see anything on this, but, I'm sure others have had the same problem.
When I play the files (uses Windows Media Player 10) that I've downloaded off of my tivo to my desktop computer (using Tivo Desktop), moving the slider at all to skip through commercials or go back to a different part of the show, or adjust it at all gives me about a 1 second lag between audio and video which never goes away. I've got to stop and start over again from the beginning. If I never touch the slider, then there's no lag, but it's unfortunate to have to watch the commercials on playback on the computer when I can fast forward through them if I'm watching on Tivo.
Any help?
Cheers,
Jack

Be sure the Microsoft DirectX system is updated on your computer (get it here) (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en) . This and a mpeg2 codec are being used when WMP plays your TiVo videos.
If updating DirectX doesn't do it, see what codec is actually being used: Play a TiVo in WMP and right click on the image area, select properties, and note what video and audio codec are being used.
Please post the codec information and the following info to help those who try to help you:
1. Make, model, etc. of TiVo, and what quality level of TiVo recording.
2. Computer CPU speed, Graphics Card Model and amount of memory.
Another thing to try is update the firmware on your graphics card.
Does this happen on all TiVo recordings or just one or a few?

Thanks for any assistance. I was wrong, I'm running Windows Media Player 11 (v 11.0.5721) on Win XP Home 2002 Service Pack 2. The playback codecs are as follows:
Audio codec: Arcsoft AC3 Audio Decoder
Video codec: CyberLink Video/SP Decoder
Hardware is:
AMD Sempron Processor 3100+ 1.8Ghz
512 Mb on board memory
NVIDIA Gforce4 MX 440 w/ AGP8X (graphics card)
I don't know the on board memory for the graphics card, if it's important I can try to dig it up.
As for the Tivo, this (and the other programs) were recorded on a Humax DRT400 DVD-RW at "High Quality".
This problem happens on all three recordings that I've tried it with. One was a short 30 minute program, one was an hour long and the latest was a 2 hour movie. Always the same problem, any skipping through the playback, whether it's by grabbing the slider and moving it or by clicking at a point on the slider and the playback audio and video are out of sync.
Let me know if there is any other information which would be helpful. Thanks
Others have had problems with WMP 11 playing TiVo files, see this post (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/printthread.php?t=330938&p=4660655) for example. I think if you search this forum you will find others examples. I haven't heard of a solution yet.
Try Media Player Classic (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/guliverkli/mpc2kxp6486.zip?modtime=1131312775&big_mirror=0) free from Source Forge. The link is to a slightly older version 6.4.8.6 because the latest version 6.4.9.0 won't play TiVo.
