View Full Version : Reluctant re-hacker / wait for 6.3 cake?

Guys,

Early signs are that 6.3b is finally "the upgrade" that we've been waiting for -- for years.

I'm on 3.1f still, for two reasons:
- moving from Series 1, I didn't want to re-learn all the series 2 hacking stuff
- so I decided to put my faith in instant cake and ptv networking

Happy to bust out the *nix when I have to, but with kids.....free time = zero. Very happy to have made the switch to Instant Cake.

No ETA on Instant Cake for 6.3B, and I'm eager to update. Any thoughts / encouragement / pointers for doing the hacks on 6.3b myself, rather than wait for cake? Or is the collective experience that cake gets updated fairly quickly? Any really solid soup-to-nuts "guides" out there worth looking at (my last look around showed some really dated guides)?

Just looking for opinions and collective wisdom. Thanks,

TC

I reverted back to 3.1.5f w/instacake and ptvnet after the 6.3a problems. When I saw the 6.3b slices had arrived I used Slicer to install the 6.3b software. Amazingly, after the software install, I still have the network connection and Tivowebplus.

So instead of waiting for the 6.3 Instacake, try what I did.

Very interesting, Dave. You must have needed to re-patch the kernel, but all else was there? Worth trying.

Have others experienced the same when going to 6.3a via slicer?

Thanks
