I was able to log into TiVo for the first time in a couple of weeks last night as my home network has finally been set up at my new address and my suspicions were correct - multiple short power cuts a few weeks ago caused TiVo to panic and delete /var/hack , something I'd already suspected as I didn't think endpad was working.
As I couldn't find a viable backup of the directory, I've set about re-installing the latest versions of all the hacks. Tivoweb Plus (version 1.3.1) was a bit of a surprise as so much has been added since the last version I installed last year. The biggest plus is the ability to manually set recordings - something I really missed on the previous versions. Also, the graphics have been tightened up to make it look a bit more slick.
On the minus side, I've had a few rogue problems with searches. I tried to search for "Royal", for Royal Institution Christmas Lectures - and it couldn't find it, despite it showing up on Christmas day (and subsequent days) using a manual search, even though it found "Royal Gardeners" and "Royal Secrets". Clicking on the series name also lists no upcoming episodes - I'm not quite sure what's going wrong here...
Speaking of RI Lectures - this year looks quite interesting - it's all about numbers and mathematics. I hope they don't dumb it down too much. Not too long ago I went back and watched a video I'd made of the RI lecture from 1993 (or around then) when it was Frank Close talking about cosmology - absolutely fantastic compared to what they've done in recent years... 5 lectures, each a full hour in length on the BBC with really innovative demonstrations. Now we have 45 minutes *including* adverts on Five.

Good stuff,
I looked at this to find out about TWP, but you reminded me of the Christmas Lectures - supposed to be for kids, but good for anyone of a scientific persuation.
Thanks for the reminder

I very recently (one month ago) ran TivoWebPlus 1.3.1 alongside TivoWeb 1.9.4 for 3 weeks. Initially I was impressed but ended up reverting to TivoWeb 1.9.4 only (although I can still boot over to TWP1.3.1 using the latest version of Hackman for TW1.9.4 if I need to) after TivoWebPlus 1.3.1 twice managed to completely freeze my Tivo in a fashion that required a full Tivo reboot to get the normal blue screen Tivo interface on the television controlled by the remote control working again. Telnet was still working when these freezes happened. I have never had spontaneous total freezes of the normal television Tivo interface like this before unless I was doing something very complicated with a Wishlist search at the time. Also TWP1.3.1 took 46 seconds rather than 31 seconds for TW1.9.4 to give the Now Playing and To Do data on my admittedly very large capacity Tivo to the OzTivo TivoGuy Yahoo Windows desktop Widget (OzTivo widget page listed below in case you were unaware of it)
The Manual Recording module for TivoWeb 1.9.4 has been around for ages Aerialplug though. Also TWP1.3.1's automatically included Hi Guide (which I think is a very nice module compared to all those other more primitive Channel Grids) is available in a TivoWeb 1.9.4 version too, although its not listed on the main TivoWeb module sites.
If you change your theme for TivoWeb 1.9.4 to DayNight and run it under Mozilla Firefox2 you will be surprised how pretty it looks (a TivoWeb guy image on the TivoWeb home page that does not show in IE7 then appears as does a much prettier colour scheme variant). You can also get the TWP1.3.1 default TivoComm theme in a version for TW1.9.4 at the http://tivo.lightn.org/ page (down near the bottom in the themes section) and this includes a new html.itcl module for the tivoweb-tcl directory which gives you a little Tivo guy inside a Spiders Web image at the top of all TivoWeb theme home pages - I personally think this looks increcibly cool. Bit of a mystery about DayNight being so much prettier in Firefox 2 than IE7 as all the other Themes look exactly the same in both browsers.
Sorry to hear about your /var/hack directory being cleared. I keep thinking I should have a UPS, although repeated power offs in a short period here are certainly not the norm - its normally just off for 10 minutes to an hour in a solid block if it happens as it unfortunately does out here in the unreliable countryside with its overhead lines. The main thing that puts me off about a UPS is permanently charging lead acid batteries that as a worst case apparently sometimes even explode in your living room (so could cause a fire) and the fact that the protection time of the UPS deteriorates from say 20 minutes or so down to only 10 minutes over the 3 years or so of UPS battery life before they and/or the UPS itself need replacing.
I think I have a full Backup of TivoWeb here along with all hacks that is viable, although I know I would have to get the rc.sysinit.author.edit TivoWeb hack installed again by Telnet related means.
The below websites cover most of the TW1.9.4hacks if you are having to scrabble around to find them. No one site has all the hacks and none of them seem to mention the 1.9.4 version of HiGuide which simply exists in its own TivoWeb thread somewhere. Good luck with getting all your hacks reinstalled. Unfortunately its a rather bigger job than just reinstalling Logos again.

...Royal Institution Christmas Lectures...
Speaking of RI Lectures - this year looks quite interesting - it's all about numbers and mathematics. I, too, am looking forward to the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures; anything that gets the grey cells working at this time of year is a good thing.
And you've gotta love those numbers.
Like Pete, I'm running TivoWeb Classic, with the Manual Recording module and Hi Guide, though, unlike Pete, I prefer my Lovely Themes to the DayNight theme, even on FireFox 2.

Some would argue you lack a certain objectivity when it comes to the Lovely Themes Eric. ;) :D
By the way did you try the new html.itcl module for the tivoweb-tcl directory that can be found in the TivoComm themes link at http://tivo.lightn.org/ as I really think that little spiders web logo on the TivoWeb desktop is brilliant, although of course sadly it doesn't look quite as good in the fluoresent and mono colour Lovely Themes. :p See http://tivo.lightn.org/tivocomm.zip
