Long time lurker, first time poster. Proud owner of an HDVR2, R10, and a used HR10-250 I bought off eBay last month.

The HR10 has been fine, though I did have frequent reboots until I read about the "reset all" fix here. Thanks for that.

My software is 3.15e. I plugged in the phone line tonight after reading promising news about 6.3b. Since the previous owner of my HR10 lived in a different city, I needed to walk through the setup to find a local call in number. Preparing succeeds, then Dialing succeeds. Connecting changes to Negotiating then I get a "Failed while Negotiating" message. I restarted, same message. I tried the same thing on my R10, and it worked fine. I switched the phone cords to no avail. I removed the splitter from the phone line to no avail. I have DSL, but my splitter is on the main line in to my phone distribution hub in the same closet where the TiVos live.

Google didn't help out, and this forum didn't much either. I saw one issue where folks say their HR10s got "stuck" on negotiating, but none where they mentioned "failed" (at least not in regards to a phone call). After I get the "failed" error I am presented with "select to retry, left to change options" - in this case, select indeed retries, and left takes me back to the area code screen. I don't think leaving it alone at this point will make any difference.

The TiVo is not hacked to my knowledge. I have zippered the HDVR2, and have added a drive to an older SAT-T60, so I'm comfortable if the fix involves cracking the HR10 open.

I considered getting Instant Cake'ing it to 3.15f, then trying again, but hate to waste the $ if it's something else.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

This is very very common. It's actually downloading and sending data while it's negating.. Just keep at it! It can take a very long time, but it will finish up if you keep at it.

There are many of us having similar issues right now when we attempt to FORCE a call. Apparently, D* is somewhat overloaded with these calls. I had to manually change my local number to another phone number before it would successfully negotiate the call. My inital phone number had been working for years. So you might want to try a different local number from the selection list. or just be patient.. Good luck.

Thanks for the speedy replies, I'll try patience as an alternative.

Ok, patience doesn't seem to have done any good. Still, I don't think I have the issue that requires patience. My HR10 doesn't "hang" while "negotiating" - instead - it disconnects from the line and says "failure while negotiating." I've left it at this screen for a while and when I return I'm back at "live tv."

I had the same problem with trying to make a call after I restarted my HD Tivo. But after a week of trying every night, finally suceeded last night.

Up until that point, It would either fail connecting or just say negotiating for a half hour or more each night.

I also have 3.1.5e

I restarted to see if that would stop the rebooting and lockups everyone is having.

Had same "FAILURE TO NEGOTIATE" problem today ... but kept at it recalling every 4-5 mins about 10 times ... and it finally made it thru to Housekeeping !! ... still waiting on this to complete ... but atleast some progress

<<Correction>> only got thru the TEST CALL ... and I am now getting a failure to negotiate on the updating call list.

Did some more research and saw a bunch of notes on how the ZIPPER cd disables the daily call and since I can't get a wireless network to work ... I gave up.

Restoring an HR10-250 InstantCake (with no zipper or hacks) and giving up networking my HR10-250

Once I removed Zipper+Hacks ... call went thru instantly within 10 secs.

If your using Zipper/Hacks you need to make sure you have a Network Connection established so you can set the FAKE CALL

I am having same problem. I have not made a call in for months but figured I woudl finally do it. NO luck. Can't get through test connection or the call to get more daily numbers.

The reason I did it was my TO DO list looks blank after Monday. Not sure why so I am freaking out the TUesday my TIvo won't be recording anything.
Off to see if I even have guide data beyond Monday.
