I am having a large issue with my 400Gbyte Seagate Baracuda 7200.8 hard drive. I restored an image on it (It works with other drives), and it boots to my splash screen, but then to the GSoD screen (or just directly reboots). 10 seconds later, it reboots.
I checked the cable, using another drive, and the jumper settings. I checked the drive for disc errors (bad sectors), and none were found. Could the CD (with the image on it) being slightly scratched cause errors like this?. The front light changes to yellow for a second before showing the splash screen (presumably loading kernal).

I'm having a problem with a Seagate Drive in My HR10-250. 300 GB. It's been running fine for being virtually "un-hacked" but now the drive is getting very noisy along with screen freezes and lock-ups.

I also had a situation like yours using the "zipper" on a Hughes SD-40, and it turned out to be a poorly burned CD.... cheap blanks, I guess. Try a better quality Blank CD-R. Mine finally worked on the 4th burn.... But, keep an eye on that Seagate.

I have tried reburning my CD. I have made 12 Tivo drives from that CD. No change. I think it is a drive issue. I can image any other drive :-\.

Did you use -r 4 in the restore command? That is required if any partition will exceed 274GB, which is the case for most TiVo upgrades.

I didn't use -r 4 when doing the mfsrestore to a 300 Gig... has been working fine until the freezes.

Do you add this to the command line, or replace the existing -s 127 -bzpi??

300 gig is ok since the original disk size and first mfs partition size is about 40GB - leaving 260GB for the second partition. This is under the 274GB maximum. The -r 4 is used in addition to the other arguments:

mfsrestore -s 127 -r 4 -xzpi .....

This is a good guide: http://tivo.upgrade-instructions.com/index.php

Thanks for the info... although I'm not in the middle of a restore, it will be helpful in the future. Happy Holidays!

I had become so "pro" at making tivo hard drives for tivos that I forgot to read that one part of the guide. I never thought I would use a drive that large.
