I have had trouble getting windows media player (wmp) to play my tivo files. After much install, uninstall, and reinstall I finally go it to work with Nero for the codec but the picture is tall and skinny. Is it supposed to be this way? If not any ideas on fixing it?

Thanks

Try other codecs. You may have to purchase them.

Thanks. Could you recommend a codec?

I'm a Mac-user, so I haven't tried Nero...but before you buy anything, check to see if there is a way to change the Aspect Ratio to 4:3 or 640x480 (if the show is from analog TV).

I'm a Mac-user (although somewhat novice) and I'm experiencing the same problem. The videos appear formatted for a portable viewer, almost 1:1 aspect ratio. I'm downloading from the TiVo with TiVoDecode Manager and viewing with VLC. Any suggestions?
thanks

You need to change the aspect ratio in VLC. Go to Video > Aspect Ratio > 4:3 (for most TV shows).
Or use can use MPlayer, which seems more user friendly:
