View Full Version : The Lost Room - Part 1 - "The Key and The Clock"

Okay I'm not putting spoiler wrap around spoilers because some people have said that I don't need to place the phrase **spoilers** in the title, others have. I've never gotten a consensus on the rule.

Alright everyone, what'd you think?

I liked it. I thought this first part was intriguing, it held my interest much more than The Triangle (that's for sure), and was very well cast.

Elle Fanning looks a heck of alot like her sister.

Is it just me or does Dennis Christopher always seem to get cast as an unbalanced basket case? The price of being a character actor, I guess. Speaking of character actors, it was cool seeing Roger Bart in this type of role, so far removed from his time spent on Wisteria Lane.

At least I'm glad that they covered their steps as far as Joe attempting to get his daughter back. I thought, "Why doesn't he just say, 'Take me to my daughter.' and then lock and unlock a door?"

Any theories as to what the prime object is?

All in all a good start that hopefully won't hit a downward spiral. The one thing that irritated me was that promo before it started and one during the airing. It was almost as if SCI FI was flaunting the fact that outside of Battlestar Galactica, their annual big-event miniseries and the very occasional original series they greenlight and then cancel, they pride themselves in reality crap and lame Grade Z Saturday night fare. If only SCI FI would try a hell of alot harder, we'd have a channel actually devoted to the genre it's supposedly named after. Until then, we have to bide our time for those rare instances when, like tonight and every once in a while, actual science fiction airs on SCI FI.

All the objects seem to be personal things. That kinda opens it up, and narrows it down, to the prime object being something that someone traveling would take with them. What's interesting to me is why thing's have the powers that they do. The key opens doors to places. I get that. The watch times eggs. I get that. A knife that makes you pass out, a pen frying people, etc? I'm not getting those. Hopefully, they'll explain those parts. Maybe the prime object's something that falls into the realm of a thing that'd control everything or be the center of things.

I liked it a lot.

The only thing I found distracting was that they have Albuquerque, NM standing in for Pittsburg.

This struck me a lot like a reworking of the old "Friday the 13th: the series" concept. It had "cursed" objects that provided a service, at a cost, to the possessor of the object, and the objects were indestructible. Aside from that, it seems like an okay premise.

The detective is going to have a hard time clearing himself now.

I would have punched the guy using the bus ticket on me, after the first time.

How many different people, or groups, are searching for these objects?

I wonder if the key, combined with the clock will allow him to go through a door back in time?

SO, if the clock is the prime object, what does IT do alone? There are dormant objects, that no one knows what they do, except that they are indestructible.

The objects don't work IN THE ROOM. At least the pen doesn't. That might be useful.

I wonder what the roll of toilet paper does?

I loved Part 1! Finally SCIFI shows something good for a change (SG/SGA/BSG aside).

I'm totally digging the idea of these ordinary objects that are more than just what they appear. I hope we get more explanation to each object and what they do and why. And their interactions with each other.

And it's great to see Peter in something again. I loved him in SFU.

I am also very happy they are airing the 3 episodes in a row. I'd hate to have to wait a week between. It's just too bad SCIFI isn't HD.

Sadly, SCIFI has the stinkers in full force. So good shows like this are rare for them.

Here's to hoping this one rocks for all three episodes.

On a side note, an interview I read (snippets) said that while it's only the mini-series, that they had such a vast universe that it could make a great series. I agree. But knowing SCIFI, it would not include the talent who is in it now. And without Peter, it would not be the same.

Is it me, or is Dennis Christopher turning into Roddy McDowell?

I remember when he was young, playing hunk roles...

Good ep 1. The only thing I hope is that they dont get too heavy on the "ORDER" and the other groups collecting them. Greed is a good motivator for the collection of the iterms.
- The Key, opens doors.
- The nail filers, make people pass out.
- The clock, ???
- The Tivo remote, freezes live tv.

PS. Smart move putting the clothes in the room with the pen and using the same logic to get the clock.

I caught the first two hour episode of The Lost Room on the Sci Fi Channel tonight. It looks pretty good. I didn't see any discussion here. There are 4 two hour episodes.

I had forgotten about that series and its similarity to this one. I actually liked that old series, and so far I'm enjoying this show.

I have to wonder if the prime object isn't really the clock, but instead is a Gideon Bible that's sitting in a regular hotel room somewhere. :)

That bible really stood out to me, but I don't know why.

I'm loving the premise of the mini-series, and depending on how it all ends, I think I'd like a weekly series set in this world.

I could only stomach the first 20 minutes of this. I thought it was horrible. I figured I'd come here and see if it was worth it to continue watching. It seems like a lot of you liked it, so maybe I should give it another chance.

On the whole, I thought part 1 was pretty good. I just think that if I found a mysterious magic key, I wouldn't leave it out on the table for my daughter to find it while I take a nap.

How did that spoil the secret? Maybe I'm mixing up ep 1 and ep 2, so I'll spoil it, but

All of the objects are indestructable.

cheesesteak, that is what I was thinking. It would be like leaving his gun out on the table loaded and ready to go while he naps.

This show, altought somewhat entertaining, is a cross between an avatar based computer game (gather stuff up) and the Friday the 13th TV seriers about magic objects -not hugley original for an "SciFi Original Series" IMO

Was a fun miniseries. You will enjoy all the parts. And want more. Also make sure to go check out the videos of some of the objects on youtube...
