Records wrong channel

My new TiVo does not record channels 2-9 (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, etc) properly. When I program to record on channel 4, TiVo records on Channel 34, when I program to record on channel 7, Tivo records on Channel 37. The problem only exists on channels 2-9. A new IR cable did not solve the problem. I have Cox cable for TV and high speed internet and get TiVo wirelessly. My Cox cable box is a Scientific Atlanta. Help!! :confused: :mad:

Has the TiVo ever worked normally? / How long has this been happening?

What type of TiVo do you have?

Have you recently changed something, like your cable box, your type of TV service (cable, OverTheAir, satellite)?

Have you gone thru Guided Setup again?

Does the TiVo have the cable box identified correctly?

Have you tried changing the IR speed?

Have you tried rebooting the TiVo?

It is a brand new TiVo 180 hour series 2 DT DVR. It has never recorded channels 2-9 correctly. I have done everything that you suggested except changing the IR speed.

I'll ask again if the TiVo has had the cable box correctly identified.

It may be using the codes for a similar box.

You say you DID try unplugging the TiVo for a few minutes and then plugging it back in again?

After 9 calls to tech support and 15 hours, I have learned that Tivo does not work with most of Cox's Scientific Atlanta cable boxes. We found that it only works with model 3250. Once we changed to the 3250 model and we identified the national channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc) as "box" rather than "cable" on the Tivo, Tivo started record the correct channel.

Unfortunately, our experience with tech support has been poor - it usually took 30 minutes to get a "live" person and only one out 3 knew what they were doing. This is my only experience where domestic tech support is worse than someone in India who you cannot understand.

In addition, Tivo sent us out a replacement Tivo and they charge $349 gross price to your credit card (rather than the price net of rebate -$169, until the old one is sent back and Tivo gives you a very narrow window to send the only one back. Really infuriating.
