Hello -

I'm preparing to buy an HDTV and a Tivo Series 3 here in NYC. We use Time Warner as our service. Does anyone want to give me some good advice BEFORE I purchase everything? I know working with Time Warner is a pain so I thought I'd inquire from this community before I call them to set up HD and inquire about the cable card.

I have a Series 2 right now with lifetime subscription. Should I wait a couple months before I transfer the lifetime to work out the kinks with the Series 3 or do I have to transfer the lifetime (and pay for it) at the point of purchase.

Thanks!

Lifetime transfer offer is only good till the end of the year. However as part of the offer Tivo give you a years free service on the old unit. So do the transfer immediately.

I haven't had any dealings with T.W. so I can't comment on that part of your question. What I would like to share with you though is that from what I've seen on the Tivo website you have to purchase the S3 by 12/31/06 and activate it by 1/31/07. So you don't have a whole lot of time to wait on the buying part. There is a rather decent return policy though. see: tivo com / 2.0.3hdDvr. plt. asp

FYI: You might want to double check what I am about to say by calling Tivo, but it the offer doesn't specifically say that the S3 has to be purchased from the Tivo website. This move could save you up to over 100 bucks!

Good Luck

Schedule the appointment IMMEDIATELY. They made my friend wait EIGHT WEEKS for his appointment. I had to wait for 3 weeks myself.

Beyond that, at this point the techs know all about tivo so don't really expect any problems.
