need help.

H10-250 with a bunk modem. DVR not activated. Need a way to activate the DVR service so I can use this box. I fear if I send back t DTV I'll get an H20 which I don't want.

Suggestions?

You need to make the initial calls before you can use any of the Tivo functions. If the modem's bad you have a couple of options. You can have the modem repaired or you can install a backup image taken from a HDTivo that has already completed the intitial calls. If you install a backup image you'll need to install the killhdinitrd'd kernel and install and run thew 51killer.tcl script. Otherwise you'll have to do a Clear & Delete Everything which will put you back to square one and require the initial calls. I really don't know if you can configure the HDTivo to dial out over the network to make the initial calls.

If you hack a new drive and run fakecall, there's no need to make the initial call. I don't have a phone line, and have activated many new tivos.

Thanks. I did some more playing (right before I gutted my TIVO and installed a 250GB drive with PTVNET which apparently does not need the intiial call - and low and behold the modem dialed out. It appears to be very sensitive to prefix and call waiting setup.

Now I just have to wait patienly for 6.3b!
