Last night got my new Series 2 (Single Tuner, 80h) hooked up just fine.
- Multi-Room viewing, wireless networking, the whole enchilada...happy happy.
- Standard Charter cable plugged right into the RF-IN jack on the back of the unit.
- Everything working just beautifully.

Then, it did the 8.1 Update (added KidZone and so forth).

HOWEVER.....now when I go to LiveTV, I've got a distinctly black screen on all channels.

Lost cable? Nope, unplugged coax from tivo, plugged into rear of TV...yep, got cable.

I did guided setup once again. On the 'what's on channel 2' screen, there's no video in the background. Tried for a couple of other channels, but no joy.

Next I did the 'Clear and Delete Everything' (overnight), and did the guided setup once again this morning. (still no joy).

Am I missing something or is my tivo tuner now kaput?

I cannot imagine that the service update somehow scrambled the tuner-brain of the unit.....

Couple of observations:

1) The Tivo can detect if the cable is physically connected, as it gives a different error message if cable is unplugged.

2) The 'Clear and Delete Everything' does not undo the 8.1 service update. I noticed that a couple of features (such as Wireless WPA) were still there when I did guided setup once again this morning.

I called Tivo tech support and they suggested that I once again go back in and try changing the input, and if that fails, then exchange the unit.

Any words of wisdom that do not involve a hammer and/or a soldering iron??

If not, then it's back to Fry's we go....

Just to follow up, new unit worked fine. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.....
