What software version?

I have a Direct Tivo Hughes HDVR2 unit about 4 years old. I had upgraded to 100 gb three years ago. Did it all myself with MFS tools. In the last 2 months I kept getting sparkles/freezes on a few channels. I thought the hard drive was going bad so I bought off E-bay a new 300 gb preloaded software for the HDVR2. Now after careful review from the threads on this website and some trouble shooting what I have found out "we have here is tuner 2's failure to communicate" . Last night at Wal-Mart I found a new R-10. I haven't gotten it out of the box yet. What version of software does the R-10 run? Can I put the 300 gb on the R-10 and have it work properly?

The R10 is a Series 2.5 and has v6.1 software. You cannot use the image from the HDVR2 in it as the hardware is different. If you have nothing you want to save from the 300 drive you could copy the image from the R10 to it and then use it.
