I had a DRT800 for 18 months (it was used when I bought it) and the burner stopped burning. I probably should have just installed a new burner but that's water under the bridge. After many calls to Humax and some feedback on questions posted to this site I opted for purchasing a refurbished DRT800 from Humax.

I am now on replacement #3 because I have not been able to get any of them to complete the initial set-up. Humax walks me through their standard protocol and then ships me another unit. I am at the end of my patience.

All three have "failed" in the same way. This leads me to believe I am the commond denominator and maybe this site can help me get this unit working.

I get through the initial Setup call that sets the clock, gets the local dial-up numbers, etc. At this point I would like to use the wireless adapter I used on my original unit to finish the programming download. However, these units have the older software version that doesn't support wireless (Humax told me this and assured me that once the download was completed I would have all the updated software to support the adapter.)

The problem is that I can't get the download complete. I go through the process to make the download via phone line. Sometimes it takes a few tries but I can usually get to the "Downloading" stage of the process. That means it has dialed out, connected and is now grabbing the data.

The unit will usually downloads for several minutes (10-20 minutes) and then I get a "download interuppted" message. I have repeated this process no less than 25 times on each unit and cannot break through and get a complete download.

Since I get the initial download completed, I can't make sense of the fact that I can't get the programming download to complete. I have filters on my phone because I use ATT/Yahoo DSL. I have tried connecting directly to the phone jack as well as connecting through the filter. I have tried various times during the day in case the issue might be increased traffic times.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Craig

Have you tried running the from the DSL modem directly into a wired USB adapter then into the Humax? It might work and then you can take back the wired adapter if not wanted or keep in case you ever need to do it again. I agree three units with the same problem is highly unlikely. Another thing you could try would be to set it up on a neighbor's phone line and let it update, then bring it back to your place. Good luck.

Might be something wonky with your phone lines? Or perhaps interference from the DSL modem. Have you tried completely disconnecting the DSL Modem from the phone line when you hook up the TiVo?

In addition, it could be interference from another telephone or modem plugged into the phone line. I'd blame the DSL first, but if disconnecting that doesn't clear it up try disconnecting all your phones and try one last time. If that still acts weird, try taking the TiVo to another location (i.e. neighbour's house) and connect from there.

I find it hard to belive that you've gotten 3 units that all have the same defect; sounds more like something in the environment causing a conflict.

Do you have call waiting? Could it be killing your downloads?

We have direct lines at work for the fax machines, is another place you could try it...
