I just purchased Tivo3 last week from store.TC and couple days later I notice that one tuner will not get any picture on channel 10, 14, 15, and 16 (cable only - OTA in these range are OK). However, when i switch to different tuner to these channels it work flawlessly. I am using HDMI and no cable cards (CC wont come until this Tuesday evening).

My question is that is anyone having this same issue? Is the tuner defected? I want to try to get some answers/solution before I contact store.TC for exchange.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi, Richard. I'm not sure what you mean by tuners; I thought you could only have a dual tuner with cable cards. Anyway, I had a problem with black screens for certain channels, but it was with one cable card and not the other. After much back and forth with TiVo and my cable company, we figured out it was a problem with TiVo's cable card slot. A new TiVo fixed my problem. I doubt this is your problem since your CCs aren't installed yet, but I wanted to share my experience, for what it's worth. Maybe the CCs will fix everything -- who knows? Good luck!

It sounds like 'missing channels' is a software problem and our next update is supposed to correct this. There is more info in the WoW cablecards thread.

I haven't had this problem (yet).

Yep I got it on one channel, and I hope it gets fixed as well. I have it on Hallmark which has some good mystery movies sometimes.

The missing channel problem is not a function of cable cards. It is a function of a problematic tuner problem The S3 has a capability for dual tuning capability with both cable card HD operation and also SD operation [U]without cable cards. Proof is by looking at the diagnostic pages or using the "Select-Play-Select-Replay-Select" shortcut that puts the status of both tuners at the bottom of the screen along with the video format.

I agree, it is not the cablecards.

I had the same problem when I removed the cablecards from the S3.

In my case, it only seems to happen on analog channels.

Since my cable provider also provides the digital feed of those channels on a higher channel number, I just went into Channels on the S3 and de-selected the analog ones that were having problems.

Go into the Display settings and change the color of the letterboxing/sidebars from black to gray. Then switch to one of your missing channels. If the screen goes gray now (instead of black) it's probably the TiVo. If it stays black, it's the cable service or CableCARDs.

Did you get the 8.0.1c update from yesterday? Others have reported that it fixes the missing analog channels issue.

If you dont have it yet... force a connection.

What's the explanation for this? I.e., when the screen of a missing channel goes grey, what's going on?

Nope. .1c does not fix the problem. Tivo claims it will be fixed in Feb. (?) with the next big software update. One of my tuners loses ALL the analog cable channels, except 22, weird.

Do you get searching for signal, or just a black screen?

It varies. Sometimes I get Searching immed. and sometimes after the black screen is up a while.

This just started happening to me last week. I'm assuming it's the Cable Card. Cox Phoenix came out yesterday and replaced one of the cards and so far all channels have been showing up.

I am having this problem as well. All the channels from 15 and up are working just fine but the first 14 are all black and after taking the advice above and switching the letterbox to gray they showed up gray. Does this mean its a problem with the TiVo? Should I call them and ask for a new one - TIA.

Also, I do have an M-Card cable card from Charter Communications in Michigan.
