View Full Version : Is there a way to find out online if Tivo is connecting to the server for guide data?

I'm not going to be anywhere near my Tivo's for over 8 months, and there are no other people at my residence. But I do have a dozen or so season passes scheduled. Is there a way to make sure that Tivo is still getting guide data, without being at the Tivo? Can I find out the last connection status from TACO? In the past when my Tivo's don't connect for a couple days, I've had to reboot my router to fix the problem. I've got a solution in place to reboot the router, but have no idea when I need to.
I would've suggested occasionally scheduling a program remotely using TivoCentral. That way you would get a confirmation email letting you know whether the scheduling was successful or not, which would tell you that TiVo was able to make contact with the mothership.
But it seems the confirmation emails are not working properly since the 8.1 software update, as is being discussed in another thread. I figure this will be fixed soon enough though.

Check out this thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=330915). Post #6 by HomeUser may be what you are looking for. I do not know anything about those devices, but you can probably send a Private Message to HomeUser to get a better explanation of the device he is referring to.

I think it would be a good idea to invest in a SlingBox. You could probably get an older model off of EBay for cheap. Then you can control your TiVo remotely. If you can't connect to your Slingbox, then you know you are having network issues.

Yeah, I was just thinking "Sounds like the perfect solution for a Slingbox."
