Odd, Annette Bening is hosting, but they just showed a leftover skit with Matthew Fox in it. Was that replacement filler for something that aired on the East coast?
Was pretty obviously out of place since he just hosted last week or so.

The date is just fine, and there was no other thread when I composed mine.

Saturday was the 9th. ;)
And I wasn't faulting you for starting a second thread. Your thread was first. I was just pointing out how ironic it was that two thread were started about the same show and both got the dates wrong.

While you may be technically correct, it's an arguable point, since most of the show airs Sunday here. I was watching live, and it was the 10th when I posted, so that's the date I used. *shrug*. But whichever, it doesn't matter that much to me, so i'll change it.

Technically, the name of the program is Saturday Night Live, so it might make more sense to use Saturday's date. But whatever.

On the East coast, the last sketch got pulled off the air mid-line because the show was running long. Was that where it happened?

I really love Annette Benning but she was awful in this. Every single sketch she spent the entire time staring at her cue cards; she almost never looked anywhere else but straight at them. Terrible!
Alec Baldwin stole the entire show (not that there was much to steal; this one was back to their "pretty bad" category after a few "not so bad" shows) with the few appearances he made.
PS. IMHO the proper title date for a show is the day it STARTS, not the date it is when you're watching it and/or creating a thread for it--especially on these boards :p :)

I noticed that too. Then they just slammed through the cast bow at the end.
Pretty forgettable episode.

Yeah, and Friday Night Lights airs on Tuesdays. But ob la di. (Besides, I changed the date already, everyone can just be happy now.)

No, it was much earlier in the episode. Couldn't tell you if it happened on Sat or Sun, but it happened right after the generic boring family in the restaurant sketch. That doesn't mean it wasn't for the same reason though. If they needed filler, it doesn't matter where they put it I suppose.

1. When was the last time that they had two separate musical guests, each performing their own number.
2. Whatever you're referring to about last week's sketch must have been in the West coast replay. Odd. They did show herpes the commercial with Alec Baldwin again, though.
I wonder what they replaced.

I really got a kick out of the "Dumbasses" sketch and the crazy fast food guy. I could easily see those hosts being on my local Sinclair Broadcast Group affiliate and the only thing missing was some product placement for Dunkin' Donuts.
Those two sketches had me in stitches so that was enough for me.

The skit with Matthew Fox was an SNL Digital Short, and it did air during the East Coast broadcast. I too thought it was out of place.
Towards the end of the show, it seemed ful lof technical problems. Overly long commercial breaks, interrupting the last skit, etc.

The show that comes to mind is the one hosted by Andrew "Dice" Clay from (having to look this up) May 12, 1990 -- The Spanic Boys and Julee Cruise did one song each, as pretty much last-minute bookings after Sinead O'Connor decided she didn't want to be on the same show as the Diceman.

Of course, Sinbad O'Connor doesn't haven't to worry about being invited back anyway.

I agree, Annette Bening did a horrible job. She just stared intently at her cue cards and didn't take her eyes off them for a moment. Really wasn't expect such a horrible outting from a decent actress.
The Matthew Fox digital short did seem odd, but I guess it was a case of "now or never". They must have either not had time last week to air it (or it wasn't ready). Besides, with Annette's readings going so well, I'm glad they dropped that in.
It was definitely odd at the end when they cut the sketch short because the show was running long. I though it must have been a technical glitch at first, gut then I put 2+2 together.
Two A-holes at a live nativity scene was awesome -- love that bit.
Oh, and what's up with Jason Sudekis taking over the George W. Bush role? I loved Will Forte as GWB. Did they want to move away from a dumb GWB and go with a more dickish version?

Any fans of The Wire here?
In the last sketch, they paid homage to The Wire with the names of the lawyers: "Marla Stanfield" and "Chris Partlow".
"Marla Stanfield" vs. "Marlo Stanfield" (the big drug dealer)
And "Chris Partlow" is the name of Marlo Stanfield's hit man Chris (you know, Chris and Snoop).

May 10, 2003, Adrian Brody hosting with Sean Paul ("Get Busy") and Wayne Wonder ("No Letting Go") as the two musical guests.
Next one before that was December 1, 2001, Derek Jeter hosting with Shakira ("Wherever, Whenever") and Bubba Sparxxx ("Ugly" and "Lovely") as the two musical guests.
Then the next one before THAT was May 12, 1990, Andrew Dice Clay hosting with Spanic Boys ("Keep On Walking") and Julee Cruise ("Falling") as the two musical guests.
It doesn't happen that often, but it does happen.

I really got a kick out of the "Dumbasses" sketchI dunno. It could have been funny, but they just kept saying "dumbasses" over and over. There's nothing really that funny about "dumbasses" (as a word). If they wanted to make it funny they should have come up with lots of interesting, new and novel (oh, and funny would be good too :p ) ways to insult their viewership; that could have been a good sketch.
As it was I thought the sketch was pretty ho-hum. Not as bad as some of the rest though.
I do agree that "Two A-holes do a Nativity" was moderately amusing. This was also about the only sketch where Annette didn't have her eyes glued to her cue cards every single second.

The Two A-Holes sketch was very funny, at least to me. Towards the end, the girl saying the baby doesn't look like Santa, got a laugh out of me. I do think Benning just wasn't good at all, which is unfortunate since I think SNL is getting better every week. I would like, however, to get an open every now and then that isn't Dubya. We get it, Bush is stupid. Let's move on...

They've done better "2 A-Holes" sketches before. The "Two A-Holes Go To The Gym" was much, MUCH better than this one. In this one, they weren't nearly self-absorbed and externally oblivious as they usually are and should be.
I thought the "I Hate This Town" sketch was moderately amusing, probably better than the Two A-Holes sketch from this week, but as the rest of you point out, it could've been better had they expanded on the number and ways of insulting the town.
Has Annette Bening not done anything since American Beauty? It seems strange that the monologue went all the way back to that for material. I mean, that's now a 7 year old movie. I think I muted the TV while I waited for her to wade through that crapfest of material, so if that was the punchline of that whole bit, I missed it.
The Valtrex fake commercial was probably the best sketch, IMHO.

Wind It Up has been all over the radio lately. She did it live (although to me it screamed "lip sync") at the American Music Awards a week or so ago. That one was better than the SNL one (which I'm pretty sure she actually sang instead of lip synced); the dancing was crisper and they had a more interesting arrangement (of course they had a lot more room than the SNL stage).
I think the hook is interesting and the drums are funky, but the rest of the song is just bad. As someone else posted, she's basically imitating Fergie and not nearly as well. Can't these people come up with any interesting lyrics? I guess the only thing they can think to sing about is how "the boys" like to look at them. Seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy there... ;)

Regardless of who's imitating who (whom?), "My Humps" and the Stefani song (oh, and that "Hollaback" mess) are both horrible, insipid, excruciatingly, mindnumbingly bad songs. Fergie's easier on the eyes (IMHO), so she gets the edge in my book. :)
For the record, I thought the Beck number (last week?) was brilliant with the band at the table. And the puppets.

A couple of people have asked that now, and I'm still not sure of the answer, but I actually *prefer* Sudeikis' version to Forte's. I was so sick of the "whining" president thing they had going on "being president is haaaaaaaaaard" *cringe*, funny once, annoying every other time.

On the other hand, I think London Bridge is a hoot... not great music of course but fun. She's got the attitude to pull off that kind of song; I don't think Gwen Stefanie can do it. Gwen should stick to what she does.

The Matthew Fox digital short was on the east coast too. It was not a west coast only thing. I guess it was cut from the Matthew Fox episode and they decided to air it now. (Wasn't funny. They should have just buried it.)
