I've read the Hinsdale and WeekNees upgrade guides and i'm going to take my 40hr S2 and replace the original drive with a new 160gb HD. But one thing i've not seen discussed in any of the how-too's is, is there any type of drive prep that needs to be done with a brand new drive right out of the box? or does the

mfsbackup -Tao - /dev/hdc | mfsrestore -s 127 -xzpi - /dev/hda

command partition and format the drive as nessisary? i'm not very versed in Linux nor it's commands so if this is a dumb question then i apologize.

Thank You.

mfstools does the format and partition all on its own. There is no prep necessary. Even with a used drive, the drive will be completely wiped.

Thanks for the quick response.

One last question i thought of after i sent this, is there a drive size threashold i should stay away from? if i can get a decent price on an IDE drive larger then 160 i was going to go that route. unless you recommend against it.

Thanks again!

Go big or go home! The only limit is the size of drive you can purchase (750GB). Other than that, ANY drive will work.
