Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help as I made a bit of a c**k up I think..

The Background...... We've just moved house and are sticking with NTL but when they cam to install it ended up that our cable to the house is dodgy so at presnt we have *some* of the Cable channels work and no phone.

ITV and CH4 don't work so I thought I would set these p uthrough the aeiral but after a few failed selections of the Rf channel thought .. hey I'll rerun guided setup forgetting our phone didn't work :(

I make my daily calls via broadband (which does work as long as NTL box isn't on).

The Problem
I can still telnet into the Tivo and all the hacks still work, can I delete some from so when it reboots it won't go back into Guided Setuip each Time? or kill a process so it will just go back to Normal??? Or a magic key press while booting??

St present I'm stuck with a machine with alot of stuff on which is just stuck in Guided Setup...

I know I didn't read the warnings properly on the start of Guided Setuip but that what we do isn't it...

The Solution

?????

Thanks

Mark

I'm afraid once you're in GS there's no way to get out that I have seen.

You need to find a network or phone connection I'm afraid.

You need to find a network or phone connection I'm afraid.

I do have the network working over modem but it seems like GS is always trying to use the phone line.. it failed with Service Unavailable

I can ping this IP from the Tivo:

bash-2.02# ping 204.176.49.3
PING 204.176.49.3 (204.176.49.3): 56 data bytes

64 bytes from 204.176.49.3: icmp_seq=1 ttl=232 time=163.891 ms

Hmm... looks like I may have to wait for NTL to pull their finger out.. not holding my breath on that one

Thanks

Mark

That should work then - and your ping results are quicker then mine over broadband!

Does a test call work?

So in nic_config_tivo the connection option is set to "network" not "Dial-up" and the connection is failing despite being able to ping to the outside world?

I guess the problems with the cable system must be having adverse affects with some elements of your network traffic then!?!?!?!

You could change the connection type to "dialup" and ask a friendly neighbour or near-by relative if you can borrow their phone line for 5 mins. You could write down the remote sequence to get to the daily call menu to save having to hook up to their tv and just watch the led's for progress :-)

Strange but it all just burst into life agan this afternoon :) I tried guided setup again this morning with no joy and again this afternoon and this afternoon it connected.. I suspect a dodgy cable connection??

Thanks for your help anyway guys.. I'm back up and running.. albeit with Aerial channels for some..

Will now wait for NTLs next attempt at breaking things
