I have a direct tv tivo and love it. I just got dsl, however and there seems to be much more flexibilty on the computer with a straight tivo. I could see a show from any computer and record it.

Wireless and tivo to go can give me the option of recording on my computer.

It costs more... $15.00 per month as opposed to $5.99 with Direct tv.

What are your collective thoughts?

Thanks,
Ellie

A standalone Tivo, either the single or dual tuner models won't be able to dual recording from a DirectTv feed.

A dual tuner stand alone Tivo would be wasted because one of the signal inputs either needs an antennae or a straight analog cable connection.

That said, it's great having the ability to move shows to a computer. I recommend that you get a single tuner Tivo and hook it up to 2nd direct tv tuner in the house on a separate tv. You can then at least enjoy a little tivo on the 2nd set (master bedroom/2nd family room) and also the benefits of TiVo2Go.

[edit] You may be able to find a good deal online for a Series 2 single tuner with a lifetime sub on it. It's a one time cost, but you'll be able to enjoy this for a long time to come. With the analog feed from the DirectTV tuner, you don't need to worry about it becoming obsolete. Additionally, the boxes last a long time as long as you are willing to upgrade the harddrives about every 3-4 years (by the way, I have not had to do that yet on any of my Series 2 boxes).

Thanks very much. This is the perfect solution for me. I also have a travel trailer that I could use the second one in. I do so enjoy the dual tuner part of what I have already. Seems most of my favorites are on at one time and the grandkids want to watch a dvd then too! :)

Again, thanks for the reply and actual solution.

Some of the networking features can be hacked in to TiVo powered DirecTV DVRs.

I am rather new at this but not afraid to open it up and try. I had two old computers and switched parts to make one decent one! So, if it is only a matter of switching or replacing parts I can do it.

Can you point me to the directions of said hack?

Thanks,
Ellie
