There's a new white version of the TiVo Glo remote up on the tivo.com store. It's the holidays, call it the 'Sno Glo' if you'd like. :)

Same functionality as the black one. But it's white.
You can buy it here. (http://www.tivo.com/2.7.1.asp)
As seen in Pony's living room. ;)
Enjoy!

And I was dreaming of a white christmas too.
Yummy.
The Maxent 50 inch plasma from Costco wouldn't take any the preprogrammed codes so the learning function on this remote will be very useful.
From the "Give them an inch, they ask for a mile" department" Any chance you guys can work out a deal to incorporate Algolith noise reduction in some future premium box, (or for a Algolith Flea price break on Tivo.com)?

You know, it would be nice if Tivo allowed you to choose which remote you wanted with your box if you buy it direct. That way S3 users could choose the black or the white, instead of having to pay an additional 50 dollars just for the privilege.
That could work with the S2 purchasers as well; allow them to "upgrade" to the new remote at a reduced price.

That'd make stocking and shipping the units hell though.

Package tivo's w/o a remote, & when someone orders a tivo, they order a remote seperately, at a discounted rate. Could work.

So have 2 different TiVo package systems and raise the production costs just so a few users can upgrade to a premium looking remote? I'm going to say, no on that one.

I'm not saying it'll be easy, but other technologies allow for customization. They could even offer third party universal remotes.
At least it's something that Tivo could look at. If they figured out it would be far more expensive and confusing, I'd understand.

2 Different package system? Not necessarily, the same system could be used with in store sales. Though, promoting it could be a bit awkward

Confusing users even more about the sale of a TiVo isn't needed. These remotes are premium remotes and TiVo is wanting to make sales on top of S3/S2 sales.

Well, based on the recent changes tivo made to pricing and contracts, it sure doessn't seem like they're worried about confusing people.

I'm surprised no one has brought up any far reaching/wild speculation yet.
This remote could be part of a new box...hmm, what company likes things in 'white`?
;) it's a stretch, I know...
More than likely...
1) One could also say it would also blend in nicer with silver remotes too.
2) Tivo has made other colored remotes before, so this likely following that same path...
I'll look for it on the rewards program ... :)

And no one is going to judge you for that. It's a lifestyle choice.

The whole point of these remotes is to make people pay extra. Do you REALLY think that remote costs anywhere NEAR $50? Don't think so.

Bah- it's a remote for an iScale DT with an integrated noise filter and upscaler.
Why HD- more money, Content Kabal Krap, expensive hardware, nothing my family is interested in watching...
HD bites.

you think so? I bought my first 80 hour S2 TiVo exactly 3 years ago this month. It cost $300 (after $50 mail in Rebate).
How much are S2 80 hour single tuner TiVo's going for today?

No rebate? but of course that doesn't help your argument.

Everything they said on the Q3 earnings call indicated that they will reduce box subsidies after the holidays, not increase them. As it stands, they have no reason to reduce the price of the S3.

Eh? I think they'd get a lot more buyers if the price were lower. $800 is REALLY steep for a box that doesn't include service. At that kind of price they should be throwing in a few years of free service or lifetime.
It's hard to convince non-Tivo folks who can rent hidef PVRs from their cable co w/o any upfront cost vs. an $800 box that has comparable or higher monthly fees. For those who haven't ever used a TiVo, they probably never will at such a high price point.
I had a hard enough convincing people just to come by for a demo let alone buy a standard def TiVo for ~$50 and another $300 for lifetime when it was still available.

of course they don't have a reason to reduce the price NOW. I never once meantioned the here and now. I even gave an example of the S2 price drop over a 3 year period.
Anyways, this will probably all be moot in 2-3 years. I'll probably end up renting a comcast HD TiVo for $15 a month with no upfront cost.

They'd get a lot more buyers if they gave away a free Mercedes with each S3, too. But since the company can't go on losing money forever, they probably won't do that.

Sorry, I was basing my response on the poll you posted in the S3 forum with the question: "Will you be angry/bitter TiVo cuts the S3 down in price to say $499 or $399 in the next year?" Silly me.

yes, very silly of you. Assuming one thread relating to another. You know what happens when you assume?

TiVo is having NO problems selling Series3 at their current price, despite a lot of people saying that nobody will buy it at that price. If they were selling them anywhere near $400, we'd all be complaining about how they are sold out because the sold them too cheap!
Currently they can be had for about $650-$680, despite the $799 MSRP. I expect a price drop next year on them, MSRP will probably go to $699-$749, and it will stay that way for quite awhile. They aren't going to cut the price in HALF, there isn't a point. If they aren't selling enough, they will drop the price a little.
It'll be 3-4 years before you see them in the $400 range IMO...

No, the silliness was assuming that your opinion remained constant across two simultaneous threads.
