Well I got the InstantCake CD for my Phillips DSR708 unit and it baked me a cake! I finally got the image and it got me 281 hours on my new hardrive! Now I'm putting it back into the DirecTV unit. I know not to plug back in the telephone line. But I have two things to do. First, to add the drivers and backdoor stuff so that I can have it networked to my PC that has XP. Does it mean this new drive is hacked since I added a new image?

Second, with this new image I just put on my new 250Gig hardrive, can I go back and put this same image on my old DirecTV drive that has the "super block" on it which will not read the partition that has the filesystem(includes OS and recordings) on it? Can anybody answer those two questions?

Instacake installs the stock Tivo software on a hard drive. Your Tivo is not hacked at this point - it's just has a larger hard drive.

In order to hack the hard drive, you'll need to install it back in your PC and install the Tivo Zipper (or a similar utility). More info and links to the Tivo Zipper here Tivo Zipper support (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=265929)
