View Full Version : Losing channels on reboot?

I had a typical install a few days ago (typical in a sense that it hurt my soul and was painful) but finally got everything working after about 4 hours. I rebooted my tivo this morning just to see if I would still pick up all my channels, as one of the primary issues I had during my install was not getting all my channels. After about 20 minutes, I'm still missing a significant chunk of channels (some digital, some analog, all premium, all hd). I have left for work and will check in when I get home, but I'm not optimistic.

My question is, what is your experience after rebooting your s3? All channels immediately? Some come in over time? I know it will depend on area, provider, but wanted to get a general idea.

I'm afraid I"m going to have to call the techs to 'hit' the box and then schedule a service call again. I'm not sure I'm up for keeping the equipment (as great as it is when it is working) if I have to do this every time the power goes out (I have a ups, but it could drain) or there is a service update and it reboots...

I had the same thing happen to me when my cable cards were first installed. I had all the channels when the tech guy left but when it rebooted itself I lost a big chunk of channels.
Call your cable service and ask them to reboot both of your cable cards, which should fix the problem (have the cable card numbers ready). I have rebooted several times since then and I have never had that problem again. Hope this helps!

Great, I will try that when I get home. Now when you reboot do you have all channels immediately?

Just b/c I expect these people to know nothing, do I want to ask them to 'reboot' them? 'Hit' them? etc...

Thanks for the info..

I called and told them that I didn't have any of my movie channels and some of my HD channels were missing. They told me I needed to reboot both of my cable cards and asked me for the numbers on the cable cards. That's it, the whole process took about 5 min and I had all of my channels instantly.

Got home and had all the channels. Seems odd it took over 30 min to pick them all up, but I am happy.

rebooting cable cards should be unnecessary (I mean in a perfect world).. But you'd think that they'd at least make a web page for you to do this, without having to bug an expensive person on the other end of the phone. (Even if they're making minimum wage, it's expensive.)
