I'm currently scheduling some late night programming using the record by day and time feature. I think I read someplace on this forum that the day and time feature is removed from some Tivo models and am now upgrading from a Series 1 to Series 3. Is this true? I schedule by day and time because the Tivo channel guide isn't accurate when the county government channel turns into CNN International from midnight to 8 AM. I'll be a bit disappointed if I can no longer record my overnight programming which I watch in the morning.

No, it's definitely not true! That's how I schedule everything with my tivo.

Why would you schedule *everything* on your Tivo via manual recordings?
I use it for a few very specific purposes -- getting ~75 minutes of World News Now (they repeat every 90 mins, and the last 15 mins of each half hour is the interesting stuff), and for the Daily Show/Colbert Report combination, since the end or beginning of one is always cut off if I use normal recordings.

As long as you have a subscription on your Series 3, you'll be fine - I do some manual recordings myself (e.g. Daily Show which doesn't have accurate guide data).
If you do not have a subscription for the Series 3, then I believe it turns into a doorstop.
