There has been some discussion in the Series 3 forum about extended hold times when using the VIP number for transfering lifetime service.

click on the database tab and scroll down to tivo and follow the instruction to get a human on the line asap.
This site tells you how to navigate the telephone menu systems of 100's of companys to "get a human" quickly.

Except TiVo's VIP line just takes you to the queue without any prompts

And some places, when you call in and trick the system to get a person, they just re-queue you to where you would have gone anyway -- making your call even longer because you took a detour
