I'm trying to record DVD's on to my Series 2 Tivo...I did it once, but can't remember how exactly I did!! My setup is: Live TV into Cable Box, then box into Tivo...can anyone walk me through this?? Thanks!!

it would be easier to convert the dvd to a tivo mpeg2 and audio file on the pc 1st and then send to the tivo via tivo2go.

with a standard series 2 you could always take out the rca (red/yellow/white) from the cable box and put in the dvd rca cables and then tell the tivo to do a manual recording of a fictitious channel. it would have the programing info of the fake recording.

I've heard that on a dvd tivo you can rename the VOB files and they'll play on the tivo because they support ac3 audio. some conversion is required for standard tivos however.

In my opinion it's not worth the effort.

Basically, I have too many DVD's and not enough time to watch them...I just wanna store them on the Tivo.

All the time you spend building your DVD->TiVo library, you could be enjoying those movies.

So if the TiVo's drive crashes you'll lose all your movies?

Nah.

Better to keep the discs and put them into the DVD player when you want to watch them.

(Plus, as said, any transfers would be very time consuming.)

If they are your DVDs, there would be no problem keeping them and watching them in your own good time, rather than copying to your TiVo or othe media storage. Otherwise your leg is peggy, and your parrot is showing.

Ok, what I meant is that I've RENTED too many DVD's (I work at Blockbuster and get 5 free every week!) and dont have time to watch them before I have to return them! I don't want to waste the PC space...I have plenty of space on my many Tivo's and just need to figure out how do it. I ask for help and all I get is opinions....sigh

If you want to pirate video, that's your business. My opinion was based on how time consuming it is to rip, possibly tweak OR convert, and transfer to the TiVo. It's not worth it to me...
