With my S3 due to arrive Monday, I called Tele-Media/Adelphia to schedule an appointment for cable cards. I was a little suprised to be asked if I wanted 2 regular or 2 HD cable cards. I asked for 2 HD cable cards, and told him I didnt know there were two varieties of cards. Anyone else heard of this?

No such thing, a cablecard is a cablecard.

Thats what I thought, I may call back before they come to make sure.

As I recall, Comcast (and probably others) have the "regular digital cable" package, and then a "HD add-on" package to that -- this is just the pricing and what channels you get.

Maybe your cable company has a package just for "regular digital cable", and then one if you get the HD package?

Was there a price difference?

I am pretty certain the HD package with Adelphia is free with any Digital package. I called back and another guy said it was just an oversight, or the other rep misspoke, a cablecard is a cablecard as maharg18 said. He also wanted to make sure I knew I would lose the OnDemand and other Interactive features. I didnt tell him the cards were for Tivo, but something tells me he knew.

well there aren't a lot of cablecard devices out there. My TV can take one, and there's the TiVo, but I don't think I've come across anything else yet.

But I think that's just by design. Cable Boxes have their own interactive interface, with stuff like OnDemand.

Fun Fact: OnDemand just gets broadcast on a QAM frequency. When I first got my TV, I had it do a channel scan, and it found a bunch of QAM channels with digital programming. I was able to figure out most of them by waiting for station breaks / logos, or by cross-referencing TV Guide. But there was a block of channels I couldn't figure out.

Until I came across one. It was fast-forwarding! It also happened to be, uh, pr0n. So, if you find your OnDemand channels, you can still watch OnDemand. It's just OnSomeoneElsesDemand
