Anyone know if the new auto-transcode will allow AVCHD video format from the Sony SR1 HD Camcorder to be shown on the S3?

This would be real sweet!

Not that my wife would go for a $1300 HD Camcorder any time soon.

Autotranscode — TiVo subscribers who upgrade to this new PC software will be able to easily browse, transfer, and watch a vast amount of Web video, right on their TV sets, using the Emmy Award-winning TiVo service, even if the content is not originally in a format that televisions can display, by autotranscoding that video through their PCs.

Autotranscode - at this point - is not about the S3.

Not until at least TiVoToCome is enabled will it be. As for then, I don't think TiVo has made any comment on making use of MPEG-4 in any specific application.

Are you confusing Home Video and autotranscode?

HV would allow you to upload (publish) your video in various formats and download to a TiVo. Once the S3 can get downloads direct from the internet, it should be included in that, or 'soon' thereafter.

Whether the service works with HD content, I am not sure has been specifically stated.

The 'Home Video' stuff in their press releases seemed to focus on pushing home videos to GrandMa's TiVo across the country.

I'm looking for the autotranscode that will allow HD video (in the AVCHD format) that currently resides on the PC to be transcoded into a format for the TiVo (preferrably in HD for the S3)

Autotranscode is a few months away, and again its unknown when the needed TTC will appear on the S3, and further, I've never heard anything about plans for MPEG-4 or HD quality.
