I currently have a S2 connected via a Linksys wireless adapter to my home network.

Brought home my new S3 today and would like to use the Linksys adapter with it and move the S2 into the room with my router and use Ethernet.

Its my understanding that TiVo says only their wireless adapter works with the S3. It this true or has anyone else successfully used another wireless adapter with their S3?

I am not sure about wireless adaptors, but the following method will work and give you a wireless connection.

1. Get a ZyXEL P-330W router
2. Configure the P-330W to operate in bridge mode
3. Plug a network cable into the Ethernet port on the S3 and into the P-330W

This definitely allows the S3 to use the network instead of the phone to download your new Guide data.

I haven't tried yet to use any software to control the S3 remotely.

On my S3, I use a Tivo approved Netgear wireless adapter that I was using previously on a 540 series without any problems.

I also purchased the Tivo wireless adapter for my S3, but I was successfully using the Belkin wireless adapter that is back on our S2.

There's no harm in trying the Linksys adapter. If it doesn't work, get the one provided by Tivo.

Netgear wireless adapter WG111 works with both series2 & 3.

The advantage to the TiVo adapter is much faster transfers - not an issue on the S3 until TTG & MRV are enabled - and support for WPA/WPA2 - not on the S3 until the next update.

Actually, I think TiVo states that theirs is the only Wireless G adapter that works with the S3. And according to micmason, that's not exactly true. The WG111 is a G-adapter, isn't it?

I just hooked up my S3 using the Linksys USB adapter I had on my S2 without a hitch.

But what I really want to know is ... Has anyone successfully used a Linksys USB Wireless G adapter on their S3?

I used a D-Link DWL-122 wireless "b" adapter for some time with my S3, and it worked fine.

Netgear WG111 adapters work with the Series 3. Only WG111 adapters starting with serial numbers WG72 or 130 are Tivo compatible.

If it doesn't work definitely use a wireless bridge. The one I bought has up to 125Mbps transfer, over double that of the typical wireless G (54Mbps). I bought a 4 port bridge for $49 on Newegg.com: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=4678862&&#post4678862

This option is especially appealing to those who have other devices in their media center that can be connected via ethernet (Xbox, PS3, Wii, etc). It's worked perfectly and is $10 cheaper than a new Tivo Wireless Adapter.

Hi Chucky,
i'm planning on using the same device you said you had "used" it-did you stop for some reason?

Much to my surprise a $19 dollar Belkin 802-B USB adapter works fine (so far) for me. Took less than 10 minutes to get through the guided setup and data collection.
