I just swapped from a ShowStopper to a TiVo S2DT. Is there a way to control and program the S2DT from the TiVo Desktop on the PC, an application that runs on the PC and downloads the schedule info so that it can be crunched on the PC? A 1280x1024+ resolution screen with schedule info and right clicks, advanced search options, etc. would beat the daylights out of that primitive, low resolution, slow display coming out of the TiVo box, you could work faster with the mouse, etc. After downloading and indexing the schedule the response would be instant in comparison to the S2DT. Seems that would be the way to do it short of a PC PVR that you have to leave on all the time and worry about burning the house down. Maybe there is a “marketing” reason.

not sure where you are going with all the extra around your question but the answer is no - the TiVoDesktop is not involved in scheduling.
You can go to www.tivo.com and use TiVo Central Online to schedule shows - depending on your internet connection it can be fast and sends the schedule requests to the TiVo to be processed without having to wait on the TiVo direct interface.

A full featured application running locally on the PC in high resolution could be miles ahead of anything on the DVR or the web. I’m coming from ReplayTV. If you’ve ever tried the RTV web interface you know that it exists in name only. If it were radically faster it would be too slow. It’s probably not necessary to struggle with a web interface or fumble with a remote and a low resolution TV screen. It could be done right on a PC. Judging from what you can do with TDT it may be possible to control the scheduling from the PC but there is apparently no software for that.
