OK – So I have put off upgrading my TIVO for 4 years – mainly because I can’t live without it!

But the time has come and I ordered 2 TURBONET ($69.25) TurboNET Ethernet Adapter’s from 9th Tee. One for me and one for a friend in the similar situation.

I have successfully upgraded the hard disk to 160GB.

The Turbonet card is fitted – but it does not get an IP address from my Netgear DG834GT router.

I changed the card for the other one and got exactly the same result. The light comes on - on the card - but no IP address is allocated.

I checked the router’s config and it works fine with 2 other devices.

I have changed all the cables and tried a different router (with DHCP on and checked with an existing laptop) but to no avail.

The TIVO boots and works fine.

Could anyone offer some advice?

The TIVO is a PVR 10UK

Desperate!

AFAIK you can't use DHCP with tivo, it must have a fixed IP address. You should allocate one that is outside the range allocated by your router.
Most people around here seem to use 192.168.x.200
where x is 0 or 1 (or even 2).

Of course I could be completely wrong, but I'm sure a guru will be along shortly to counter any misinformation. ;)

You need to allocate a static IP address as nebulous says.

The default is 192.168.1.200, so if your router and PC are on the 192.168.1.xxx subnet you should be able to ping and connect immediately. If not then either re-run the turbonet install and choose an IP address in the right subnet or temporarily change your router to 192.168.1.1 and then run nic_config_tivo via telnet to change the TiVo's IP address to something in your normal subnet before changing the router back again.
