Series 1 help with Hard Drive

I'm a real newbie here and have only opened up the box on a philips PTV100.

I know that it has a 20 GB Hard Drive and what I want to do is upgrade to a 120 GB Hard Drive. I have expertise with PC's, but have never played around with linux or TiVo for that matter.

All I want to use the box for is a stand alone DVR hooked up to a camera. Is there a way to eliminate all the TiVo stuff and have a straight forward DVR? I'd like to upgrade the Hard Drive. What software to I use and how do I install it on the new hard drive?

You need the TiVo software. The only way to run other that TiVo software is to look elsewhere, or write your own, and you are on your own looking for that too

The Linux knowlege needed to upgrade a TiVo HDD is not a whole lot, really. All it it is a command line with some conventions to follow.
