View Full Version : Stuttering Tivo - CacheCard issue?

I am having problems with stuttering images/sound when watching now playing items. The problem is intermittent (although more often that not, and enough to make it unusable and currently gathering dust).

It also happens when watching live tv. The picture/sound is fine if the Tivo is removed from the set up.

I gave it a restart and noticed when it boots the 'silicon dust' cache card splash screen displays an error "Driver failed to load.."

Could this be related or is it a red herring?

I think this cachecard must be sort of working as I can access tivoweb etc.

I fear I am going to have to send it back (again)

The "driver failed to load" error could be a red herring as you will get this normally if your cachecard has no RAM installed.

However, the stuttering and freezing of picture and sound are a clear indication of a failing hard drive - nothing to do with the cachecard at all.

Thanks Blindlemon.

The tivo experience has been nothing but pain for me. Ive already had to send it back once.

I think I am going to look at other pvr's.

I sympathise if you've had problems with your TiVo, but replacing it with another so-called 'PVR' won't be much of a solution as they're all utter pants - a bit like replacing a broken car with a pogo-stick IMHO

I would suggest investing in a replacement drive - if you get one from a reputable source then you can get a refund if it doesn't cure your problem, but if it does (which is likely) then you'll be smiling :)

Thanks again Blindlemon,

Ive also discovered that I cant expect the Tivo to change channels reliably on my freeview box.

I guess I will buy I new freeview box, Ill have a surf around and see what people recommend.
