What's the current software version supposed to be? I throught I read that DirecTV was finally upgrading to v6.x sometime this summer, but my HR10-250 is still running version 3.1.5f-01-2-357.

I normally only plug the phone line in when "nagged" but the Tivo hasn't reminded me for a few months. When I checked the daily call status it said "Pending restart", so I plugged the phone in overnight to allow the 2 a.m. signal. It's no longer "pending restart" but still hasn't applied the software upgrade. Is there a way to force it without major hacking?

The current version for the HR10 is 6.3a. If your TiVo said "Pending restart", then it had already received a signal to reboot at 2AM - no further call was necessary. There is no "2am signal", but if 6.3a is sitting on the disk, which it probably is, then all it SHOULD take is a completed call to get it to install.

Personally, I am holding off until the OTA audio issue is addressed.

The DVR has been "pending restart" for several weeks (maybe months) but it apparently didn't restart until I left the phone line plugged in overnight.

Now it has restarted but I'm still at the older version. If I make my daily call manually it goes through the process (Preparing to call...Housekeeping...Dialing... Downloading...Hanging Up) and the goes back to "Pending Restart" status.

Lather, rinse, repeat - same thing every time. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Did you hack your TiVo to disable installing new software? Something is preventing the install from happening.

When it says Pending Restart, do a manual restart from the menu. What do you see? If it was actually trying to install, you'd get a message about that.

I have not hacked or modified my TiVo in any way.

After a manual restart I see a message "Installing new software from the TiVo service. This could take a few minutes." After satellite data is acquired the DVR starts, but the software version is still 3.1.5f-01-2-357.

Something is preventing the update from completing. I don't know what you could do for diagnosing this that would not involve opening the box (and I'm not sure what one would look for on the disk.)

Is 6.3a strictly for the HR10, or is it for all DirecTivos? I have a Series 2 Samung that I recently upgraded from Weakness, and I'm mainly hoping for an update to get my channel logos back. Thanks for your help.

6.3a is for the HR10-250. The corresponding version for other S2 DTiVos is 6.2, except for the R10 which is 6.1. None of these should be considered "newer" than the others for the purpose of functionality.

I know the DirecTivos aren't being manufactured anymore, but since the Tivo contract extends for another 3 years, I don't see why DirecTV won't continue to offer software upgrades, especially with customers requesting them. Do you think they will eventually allow Series 2 like myself users to get the 6.3x update?

6.2 and 6.3 have nearly identical functionality. If you have a S 2 dtivo you want 6.2 anyway since 6.3 seems to not include mrv.

Yeah, that's true. I actully love 6.2, but is it true the only way you can get channel logos back is via a software update? You'd think a simple daily call would notice these missing and start a download.

hacking with the zipper or running the latest Rbautch enhance script installs channel logos.

Thanks Luder, but I'm not sure I want to do a master reset.

What kind of tech support should I expect from DirecTV? Is it worth calling them to see what they suggest?

to tell you the truth i'm not to sure what the tech guys say the only think i can think of is start fresh by resetting your box this would wipe out everything .. then click on my link to reactive your box.. It's pretty fast but, I don't know any other way..

Anybody have any good ideas to help out b?
