I used the patches here to modify my directivo and it has worked great.

How much longer before its an unsupported unit by directv ?
OR will there still be upgrades and usage for some time?

Talking to their support last month about overcharging me.
I asked why is it with cable I can get locals on the 8's with the weather channel
and its my LOCAL forecast...Why don't you offer this? Locals across the nation..and not specific to me is a waste of time.

They said that there was a channel filter for that but TIVO units don't support it.

ANY truth to this or bs ?

thanks for a great site and some great info and files

sparks the way I had it explained to me is Local on the 8's weather is exlusive to cable. each cable office inserts it for their market.

Thanks Gunnyman.

That follows right along the other directv support I usually get.
"Directivo units don't support it", In other words it can't get cable LOL

I guess I must have missed where I would get that with their pvr :)

again thanks for clearing that up.

ps...unsure but (a friend has dish and he said they do have a channel in the 100's that will give you your locals)

In short, Neither DishNetwork nor DirecTv offers a Weather Channel feed that provides local weather information. Consider it a "national feed" of sorts.

That is not a broadcast channel, per se'. That is a data feed that provides such local weather info on the screen. Not quite the same thing, but it does fill the gap to a point.

The DirecTivo units will be supported for the forseeable future. People talk about their demise but there are not plans to do a massive swap out of DTivo units for their own units. Heck, there are some UltimateTV boxes still out there in good use, from what I recall. So dont sweat it.

I get my local weather forecast on the internet. I don't have to wait for the 8's or any other digit.

I believe Dish Network does have an interactive feature that allows you to view local information from the Weather Channel during "Local on the 8's"

Same here. I'm amazed people would sit in front of the TV waiting for the weather report ( though I guess "on the 8's" minimizes that )

With something like Weather Underground (http://www.wunderground.com) you have access to all the satellite, doppler and forecasts that the weather guys do, but also to stations the neighborhood weather geek has in their backyard.

Heck, hack your TiVo and use JavaHMO and you can have weather on your TV right from the Now Playing list.
