I recently purchased a Bush DFtA11 for use with my tivo, and am delighted with it. (Why didn't I upgrade to freeview earlier!). The default option is so that the receiver will auto-upgrade in the night if it is on standby. I can disable this option?

Does anybody have the same box? and is does this re-scan for new channels.
I am concerned about synchronising tivo and the freeview box when there is a channel re-jig.

Any help or general advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If it is in standby - then will it miss recordings for TiVo?

Not necessarily as many Freeview boxes including my original Philips DTX 6370 OnDigital box are wakened from standby mode by the sending of just the IR channel number sequence. However recordings may be missed if the auto update sequence runs in the middle of an overnight recording and does not revert to the original channel number.

If you don't leave the box with Auto Update enabled you will need to keep an eye on the Freeview box engineering download update schedules so you can just turn on the feature on a night when you known an update for the box will be transmitted. This will only be once or twice a year at most and further updates usually cease once a box is a couple of years old and most of the initial software bugs have been ironed out.

As to you only getting Freeview now yes it is very hard to understand. As someone living in a flat with a covenant banning my own satellite dish and outside the cable area I couldn't wait to be a Day 1 customer of OnDigital over 8 years ago now in Nov 1998. Tivo is all about watching the best programs and a Freeview box increases the possible range of best programs to choose from.

Still I'm heavily motivated by program content but not especially by picture quality so whilst others here can't wait to blow two or three grand on Sky HD and the latest HD ready LCD tv I remain here with my old CRT set completely unmoved and unwilling to part with the necessary dosh. The fact that I now learn that having an LCD tv would make my Tivo picture look worse than it does now only makes me more convinced I took the right decision. I may try to pick up a Plasma tv on Ebay at some point if I see any going at a good price.
